Media Repression

From Ernesto Maceda:

Media repression. The Department of Justice secretary has banned Manila Times reporter Jomar Canlas from entering his office. Gonzalez got mad when Canlas reported a conversation between Gonzalez and Special Prosecutor Dennis Villa-Ignacio on the negotiations for the testimony of Atong Ang by deposition in exchange for non-extradition.

This proves that the Ombudsman is not an independent agency anymore. The Ombudsman has been reportedly pressured by Malacañang to sit on the charges of graft against the chairman and members of the Comelec in connection with the anomalous procurement of computer counting machines.

Former Sen. Rene Saguisag said banning a media representative from the office of a public official is illegal and a “suppression of the freedom of expression.”

A Malacañang aide has threatened Ellen Tordesillas, cancer — stricken Malaya columnist with removal from her paper for writing about Ana, the beautiful widow (not divorcee) in San Francisco whom she reports is the current apple of FG's roving eyes.

Malacañang boys have started to buy out copies of the Tribune and also, the International Herald Tribune reporting stories unfavorable to GMA.

GMA has also been known to call and dress down ABS-CBN and GMA-7 executives when unfavorable commentaries or interviews are aired.

It's all part of undeclared martial law.

Naku! Sino kaya ang pinapagalitan ni GMA na GMA7 at ABS-CBN execs? Sila Dong Puno at Mike Enriquez ba? Yung mga Lopezes at si Manny Pangilinan, minumura rin kaya ni Arroyo sa telepono?
