Angara's revisionism

From Doro's article re Angara's biography penned by Nick Joaquin:

Angara admitted that his decision to give way to Erap disappointed many of his supporters. He said, “It was actually one of the hardest decisions I ever made in my life. When the campaign started, my core campaigners refused to sally forth until they had heard my explanation. I told them I had made various agreements with Erap on how he and I could collaborate in running the affairs of the country.”

In the end, Angara lost to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for the vice-presidency. Estrada’s popularity did not save Angara from defeat.

Angara said Erap had assured him that even if he lost, “I could still implement all the reforms I meant to accomplish as veep because he, as president, would give me a free hand to do that.”

But Angara had to confess: “That did not happen, because Erap welshed.”

The Erap-Angara pact is a story of betrayal.

Wasn't Angara appointed to the dept. of Agriculture (angara's choice) one year after losing the VP race to implement his reforms there? Kasi there's a one-year ban on losing presidential and VP candidates from being appointed to a cabinet post after the elections, IIRC.

And the opportunistic Angara did manage to finagle an Executive Secretary (aka the Little President position) position to co-run the Presidency from a weakened Erap after Juetengate and the Impeachment.

Kung may betrayal, si erap ang na-betray ni Angara with the so-called Angara Diary, LOL, which the Supreme Court used for it's highly flawed and partisan "contructive resignation" decision.

MORE: Angara still claims he's part of the opposition

SEN. Edgardo Angara yesterday took a dig at minority leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. for claiming that candidates from the former’s Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino might not be included in the opposition coalition ticket, saying that he remains an oppositionist.

Angara said the question of who or which party would compose the opposition coalition in preparation for next year’s midterm elections should be resolved "quietly."

*rolleyes* @ Palace Mole.
