Everytime I hear the Arroyo admin and her allies keep talking about how great the economy is right now, how unemployment is "down", and poverty level is "down"... I always want to say:
"Tell that to the people, maam."
Tell that to the people who lost their jobs. Tell that to the people who still can't find a job here, and tell that to the doctors and teachers who have given up looking for a decent paying job here and are willing to go abroad to become nurses and maids
the cost of living here has gone way up in the last few months, but the salaries of filipino workers have not gone up at all, at hindi na kumikita ang karamihan sa mga businesses ngayon.
I think some Filipinos are suffering from "cognitive dissonance". The arroyo admin keeps telling us the economy is doing great and unemployment is down, but ordinary people you talk to tell a different, more realistic side. They know deep down that they're not getting the whole truth, and not everything is alright.
The economy is "great", tell that to the people, maam!
UPDATE: More from Lito Banayao on our "strong" economy.
Sa tingin ko, ang kumikita na lang sa ekonomiya natin ay yung mga dvd video pirates at mga cellphone card dealers (at ang mga tongressmen at mga admin officials ng pamahalaan.)
