ALMOST half of Filipinos or 48 percent believe that removing President Arroyo via "people power" would be good for the country, the March 8-14 survey of Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed.
Twenty-seven percent disagree with the statement while 21 percent are undecided. This elicited a net score of 21 points in favor of People Power.
Forty-four percent prefer Arroyo’s resignation. Twenty-three percent disagree while 29 percent are undecided, for a net score of 21 points.
Last December, 58 percent prefer resignation while 17 percent are against, which resulted in a net score of 41 points.
Thirty-six percent believe that Arroyo should be ousted via a military coup but 35 percent disagree, or a net score of 1.
Based on the net scores, those in Metro Manila favor resignation (+42) over people power (+33). In Luzon, they are inclined more towards resignation (+18) as against people power (+14). Mindanao prefers people power (+44) compared to resignation (+30).
In Visayas, the net scores are +3 for people power, +2 for resignation, and –14 for military coup.
By socioeconomic classes, Class ABC preferred resignation (+27) over people power (+25), Class D wants people power (+20) as compared to resignation (+16), and Class E prefers resignation (+32) over people power (+23).
The survey also showed that 45 percent did not support government’s banning of rallies during the preparations for the 20th Edsa anniversary celebration last Feb. 24.
And only 29% agreed with the admin on banning the rallies. I wonder how Winnie would spin this latest survey result?
