Ping Lacson backed out because he was worried about his residency status in Manila, even though he was able to lease a townhouse in Manila on April 2005, well ahead of the one year residency.

UPDATE: Ali Atienza's campaign slogan: "Kabataan ang Pag-Asa ng Bayan."
UPDATE: Nung inisip ko ulit ang sitwasyon ni Lacson, I believe he made the right decision. Because his residency issue is a close call, and while majority say that the law is clearly in his favor, there's an almost equal number of well-intentioned advisers saying na the COMELEC could rule against him (especially THIS COMELEC under Arroyo). At syempre, gagamiting issue ito ng mga kalaban niya sa kanya, katulad ng citizenship issue ni FPJ, which damaged him in the polls, even though dirty tricks lang yan ni Ricardo Manapat at Fornier ng Arroyo administration.
The administration and his rivals will hound him on this issue, saying na sayang lang ang boto niyo kay lacson dahil madi-disqualify rin yan. lacson will spend most of his time wondering if he'll be disqualified or not because of the residency requirement, which is out of his control because ang COMELEC ni Arroyo ang magde-decide diyan.
He'll spend most of his time defending himself in the media about his residency status.
UPDATE: Damn, I misread the date. April 2005 pa pala siya may tirahan sa Manila. I thought April 2006. Damn, I think dapat sana'y itinuloy niya ang candidacy niya sa pagka-Mayor.
