Joker, Recto and Angara to join Arroyo's ticket?

(To the Tribune Webmasters: guys, may virus na naman ang website nyo. VBS Soraci. Paki-tanggal na lang para hindi ma-infect ang ibang computers. tenk yu. anyway, to be safe, run the tribune links under the "Ask Mobile" filter.)

Malacañang, in its usual practice of raiding another camp’s bet, has reportedly netted at least three reelectionist senators, even as they are continuously being wooed to run in President Arroyo’s senatorial slate.

The three, as broadly hinted by Speaker Jose de Venecia, are Senators Ralph Recto, Joker Arroyo and Edgardo Angara.

Angara, however, reportedly asked for 48 hours to announce his decision on which party he would be coalescing, but ad-mitted that he has been invited many times to join the ad-ministration ticket.

At the same time, efforts to resolve the alleged growing “discord” between the United Opposition (UNO) and the group of reelectionist administration senators are now ongoing, amid reports of supposed party-raiding by Malacañang.

Both senators lured by the Palace refused to confirm reports that they have decided to join the administration ticket.

SEN. Edgardo Angara yesterday said he is prepared to give up his reelection bid if efforts to field a "Third Force" or "People’s Choice" do not prosper.

Angara said he would be happy to retire after spending 17 years in the Senate, or a total of 30 years in public service.

Angara, president of Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino, has been left out in the list of United Opposition senatorial aspirants. Reports said he is being wooed by Malacañang to run under the administration ticket.
.....
"But if I decide to run, my preferred scenario is for the core of the ticket to be composed of incumbent senators who will run as an independent mainstream party. Independent of administration, independent even of the opposition," he said.

"We can be free-thinking agents who will support bills, not because it’s partisan, not because it’s political but because it’s for the country. That’s my preferred (scenario)," he added.

If there is no such "independent ticket," Angara said, "I need not run."

He ruled out the possibility of the LDP going it alone.

He also ruled out joining the administration party or brokering for the administration the inclusion of former senators Loren Legarda and Vicente Sotto III in the administration ticket.

But I'm not surprised. this is typical angara, the palace mole.

UPDATE: Angara joins administration ticket. Ka-ching!

In other news, yung Wednesday group ni Villar and co. ay winawatak na rin (ala Lakas at UNO) dahil sa pangre-raid na ginagawa ng administrasyon sa mga candidates nila.

Pero recto and joker gave Lacson assurances na they will not run under Arroyo's party.

Lacson maintained, based on the assurances given him by Recto and Arroyo, “there’s no way for them to join the administration ticket or the so-called unity ticket or the so-called third force,” dismissing reports that the two are not among those chosen by UNO.

That will be the most sensible thing to do.

Btw, Segolene Royal, French presidetial candidate was also accused of "hiding" some assets.

Without further ado, she submitted all the deeds pertaining to her assets as well as signed a waiver so that the brigade de finances could examine her financial history.

Her entire assets don't even amount to anywhere close to a million euros because she doesn't earn enough as a politician to have more.

She didn't come from a wealthy family either. The pieces of real estate property she owns with her partner are being paid on installment basis.

In France, the kind of financial record and declaration that Mike Arroyo Jr submitted to parliament would have been the cause of his downfall with imprisonment to boot.

No way could he have made the money he declared to congress by being a vice-governor of a province and before that, staffer on his mom's payroll.

Even if for the sake of argument, he INHERITED lots and lots of dough, a French IRS officer (let alone a member of the Brigade des Finances) would examine his financial history.

Friends of French presidents have gone to prison and died in prison for much less.

The all powerful mayor of Nice was convicted of financial shenanigans - his properties confiscated and his bank assets frozen.

Look at Chancellor Helmut Kohl - even after his retired, they ran after him.
