I think the rape case filed vs. the 6 US soldiers will be settled

Here's what I think will happen:

The Arroyo admin will "make sure" the 22-year-old Filipina rape victim to settle the case, if it gets assurance from the US gov't na they will not abandon GMA politically.

You know the US earlier tried to bribe the victim, but it did not work out. The Arroyo adminitration OTOH, is much better at intimidation tactics and using the "carrot or stick" approach to get the witnesses and victims to change their tune. Tignan nyo na lang yung nangyari kay Udong Mahusay, Vidal Doble, Richard Garcia, Rashma Hali.

So if the US gives their assurance na they will support Mrs. Arroyo to the end, this admin will make sure the victim "settles the case." Isasakripisyo nila ang biktima dito. And I won't be surprised if the victim comes out later, holds a press conference, and tells the public na she is withdrawing her charges against the US servicemen. Just like Richard Garcia and Udong Mahusay.

Ellen Tordesillas:

I seriously doubt if the Americans will agree to turn over their citizens under Philippine jurisdiction. And I also seriously doubt if the Arroyo government, which is groveling for US support, will have the courage to assert the country’s "primary right" over the accused.

More from the Trib:
This early, justice may be denied the Filipino woman raped by an American serviceman while five of his colleagues watched and cheered, as Department of Justice (DoJ) Secretary Raul Gonzalez yesterday conceded that there may be no witnesses who can be produced, and that an amicable settlement will result in the dismissal of the case, although he claimed this is not likely to happen.

But reliable sources in the DoJ also yesterday told the Tribune that the Arroyo administration has tapped someone from Zamboanga known to the victim's relatives to persuade the rape victim to “settle the case” with the US servicemen as well as directing others to put the pressure on possible witnesses to recant, or remain silent.

Gonzalez, answering newsmen's questions, conceded that hypothetically the case may no longer be pursued if there are no witnesses.

"The US berated the Philippines for abandoning the Coalition of the Willing, branded us as being a soft on terrorism, labeled us a cowards. We were snubbed by the US and treated like a pariah in the international community. We paid a high price for our decision to protect our own," ani Arroyo.

UHHHH.... where were you Joker, during the GLORIAGATE scandal?

What a joke! Walang kwenta ka joker! do you only sound off like this kung ang topic ay sina marcos, erap at ang estados unidos? pero pagdating sa arroyo admin, tahimik ka lang?
