Senators ridicule House solo Cha-cha
‘A big, big joke’
SENATORS yesterday took turns lambasting Speaker Jose de Venecia for his statements Tuesday that the House will propose amendments to the Constitution even without the participation of the Senate.
Senate minority leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. said De Venecia’s latest threat is "a big, big joke."
"He’s not in a position to carry that out, and he knows that," he said. "Besides, we have never treated Joe de Venecia as relevant to nation-building anyway. I don’t think he ever stood up for the good of the people."
Sen. Joker Arroyo said: "(De Venecia) is free to collect all the signatures he wants. But whether that will have an effect is something else… So, he can get the signatures of the 236 members of the House but it won’t create a pinprick in the Senate."
"Speaker De Venecia has no numbers in the Senate. He can say anything… as what (former Russian Premier Nikita) Khrushchev said…‘When little children play, don’t mind them,’" he added.
Senate President Franklin Drilon reminded De Venecia that the action of a single chamber does not constitute the act of the entire Congress.
Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago said De Venecia is going on a fast road going nowhere.
Sen. Sergio Osmeña III said the Speaker is the "biggest reason why this country cannot afford a parliamentary system."
And more on GMA's war vs. the Senate from Lito Banayo.
Yeah GMA, why don't we just abolish da Senate na lang ano, para wala nang kokontra pa sa iyo. And get Speaker Joe de V to help you do the dirty deed... nyek nyek nyek...
