Questions re the raid on the Daily Tribune and Abante

Balikan natin ang dating nangyari. From the PDI:

POLICE officers from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group entered the editorial office of the oppositionist newspaper Daily Tribune in Manila around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

There were no more editorial staff members present when the policemen arrived.

A radio report said the policemen numbered about 15.

They took copies of the mock-up copy of the paper's Saturday issue and copies of photographs before leaving the office on T.M. Kalaw Street.

A few of the policemen stayed outside the editorial office, saying they wanted to "secure" the place and make sure that everything inside would remain intact.

And this from Reuters:

Police also went to the offices of the Abante tabloid but Elvira Altez, a member of its board, said the officers left after seeing crews from two television stations...

The president's allies defended the newspaper raids as a legitimate step against attempts to incite unrest. Ignacio Bunye, Arroyo's spokesman, suggested the government knew few details.

"We will find out the circumstances. But I believe that those who did this had reasons, because the authorities are unlikely to be capricious about Tribune and Abante," he said.

Interesting. So nung ni raid ng pulis ang Tribune, sa mga unang reports na lumabas, it is obvious na may hinahanap silang ebidensiya (o balak nilang mag-plant ng evidence). The police claimed that it wanted to "secure" the place so that "everything remains intact", as if isang crime scene ang loob ng tribune offices.

Anong "ebidensiya" yun, ewan ko. Malacanang claims na wala silang alam sa operations ng pulis ng magsimula yung raid na ito, but that's hard to believe.

Anyway it seems na yung wala silang mahanap na incriminating evidence sa loob ng opisina ng Tribune directly linking them to the so-called coup plots against arroyo, kaya iniba ng PNP ang istorya nila.

Now they say the admin says they raided the Tribune offices because the tribune raw was aiding the coup plotters spread "rumors and baseless information" against this administration. HWAAAAAAAAAA...

In the first place, hindi "baseless" o "rumor" yung GLORIAGATE scandal, or the Fertilizer scam or Jose Pidal or yung reports of corruption about your fake admin, Mrs. Arroyo. As for the "coup rumors" being spread by the Tribune, they're just reporting it. As far as I know, yung administration at DOJ ang madalas mag-iispread ng "coup rumors" at mag-accuse ng mga kritiko nito of being "destabilizers" at "coup plotters".

I'm not saying the Tribune is perfect. Like most newspapers, it makes some mistakes every now and then. But on the BIG issues like GLORIAGATE, JOSE PIDAL etc. and Arroyo's ILLEGITIMACY, the Tribune is pretty much right on the money there.

Just because you're a critic and want the ouster of this fake president, doesn't mean you're a "coup plotter" or a "destabilizer".

Telling the truth is not at all destabilizing. The truth will set us free Mrs. Arroyo.

UPDATE: it's interesting na umatras ang pulis sa pag-raid ng Abante nung nakita nilang may media na naka-abang doon.

Police also went to the offices of the Abante tabloid but Elvira Altez, a member of its board, said the officers left after seeing crews from two television stations.

parang alam ng mga pulis na illegal ang ginagawa nila ano?

Btw, will the tribune be compensated for the newspapers that were confiscated by the Police during the raid?
