Guidelines worth following

From Conrado de Quiros:

RAUL GONZALEZ SAYS THAT EVEN AFTER 1017 is lifted, media will still have to comply with certain guidelines concerning coverage. What arrant nonsense. Someone should remind him that the origin of our current mess is that his boss couldn't follow a few simple guidelines concerning elections.

What are those guidelines? First, do not lie. If you say you're not going to run, whether on the grave of Jose Rizal or not, you do not run. Second, do not cheat. You do not raid the public treasury, particularly in the form of funds for fertilizer and funds from Pagcor and the PCSO, which are meant to alleviate the plight of farmers and poor folk, to line the highways with billboards displaying your grinning face and proclaiming the things you've done for farmers and poor folk. Third, do not steal. You do not talk to the most corrupt Comelec official ever to walk on two legs and demand to win over the most popular candidate by a million votes. And go on to pass that off as an impropriety or oversight.

These are the simplest guidelines in the world. Hell, a cretin would understand them.

Agreed.
