We have learned the hard way that going through People Power and military coups will further breed troubles down the road.
We have to follow the rules this time, no matter how tempting the idea of forcing her out by force can be.
NO TO SHORTCUTS! History has given us that lesson from EDSA I and EDSA Dos.
lightspeed, edsa 1986 was not effin shortcut. the filipinos suffered for 20 years under martial rule. tapos nung nag snap election, ninakaw pa ni marcos ang election at na-proclaim siya ng kanyang batasan. it was about effin time democracy was restored to our country.
and the difference between edsa dos and what the anti-GMA opposition is doing is that: edsa dos was indeed a shortcut IMO, since there was the 2001 May elections and the anti-estrada opposition could have won additional senate seats to impeach erap, while the anti-GMA opposition, after initially reacting with edsa tres of their own, followed the constitutional route and patiently waited for the 2004 presidential elections to unseat Arroyo.
But here's the problem. what if elections don't work anymore because the COMELEC has become a major dagdag bawas operation for Arroyo. What if we don't live in a democracy anymore (or will live in a faux democracy) because the gov't stole the elections just like marcos did, and she had her Batasan... excuse me, i mean Congress "note" away all the evidence of election fraud and proclaim her victorious?
it's easy to say, maghintay nalang kayo sa 2007 elections kung gusto nyong ma-impeach si arroyo. but as long as arroyo and her COMELEC is running the show, that's unrealistic? why would she and her COMELEC allow her allies to lose the elections, ano?
the opposition already tried removing her from office with arroyo's COMELEC in 2004, pero ayaw talaga ni arroyo, garcillano at COMELEC eh...
and if you'll recall, hindi lang naman si arroyo ang nakinabang sa dagdag bawas operations ng COMELEC eh. if you listened to the tapes and heard michaelangelo zuce's testimony re COMELEC officials receiving bribes from arroyo and garci, many admin candidates were mentioned too.
