- Death threats forced election exec’s relief
Warnings traced to cell phone of Garcillano

ZAMBOANGA CITY — A regional director of the Commission on Elections who exposed an alleged P50-million bribery attempt to rig last year’s elections said Thursday she was removed from her post four days before the polls because of threats to her life.

Helen Aguila-Flores, in charge of the Comelec in Western Mindanao, said her superiors in Manila told her the threats came from a politician in Sulu.

Flores said she was later told the death threats had been traced as coming from the cellular phone of former Election Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano.

Nakow!

- Malacañang slips, assures Garci ‘definitely’ still alive

Despite playing innocent on the condition and whereabouts of former Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Virgilio ''Garci'' Garcillano, Malacañang yesterday assured that the poll official remains standing on his own two feet.

Asked if Garcillano is still alive, Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye, in an apparent slip of the tongue, replied, “Definitely.”

Bunye did not elaborate.

Mukhang nadulas ata si spokesperson Bunye ah.

- this is telling:

That Zuce's testimony was credible could easily be gleaned from Malacañang's change in stand. Where before the Palace aides claimed that Zuce's tale was incredible as he was merely a low-level functionary whom Gloria couldn't be expected to know, much less deal with, the Palace now says it is possible for Zuce to have gone to La Vista with his boss, Joey Rufino, and must have memorized the layout of Gloria's Quezon City residence. Triple oops, that, since Zuce, as claimed was a low-level functionary, would be brought to La Vista? What was wrong with Rufino seeing her in her office, or in her home, but without staff?

Good questions.
