The paper is Manila Standard Today

From Lito Banayo:

MY friend Tony Abaya wrote a column for another paper. It was entitled "Sorry is Not Enough", and analyzed Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s message to the nation last Monday.

"Arroyo seems to be sorry that she got caught, not that she did what she did", wrote Tony. It couldn’t have been put more succinctly. Tumbok na tumbok and totoo.

Unfortunately, the owner of the paper for which Tony Abaya wrote, whose main business is dependent on government licensing, refused to print his opinion column. Tony resigned, as any decent and self-respecting person should.

Sigh.

UPDATE: Interesting. Lumabas ang article niya this Saturday, July 2, even though Thursdays usually ang labas ng article niya (which means dapat lumabas yan noong June 30, 2005). I'm glad Manila Standard finally came to their senses and published Abaya's article.

UPDATE: The owner of Manila Standard is Enrique Razon btw. ;)

UPDATE: Yup, Lito Banayo wasn't on crack. Tony Abaya's column was rejected on June 30. From Iskandalo Cafe (google cache):

(This column was rejected for publication by the CEO of Manila Standard Today on the grounds that it ran counter to the editorial stand of the newspaper as articulated by its owner, Enrique Razon. I have consequently resigned as columnist in that newspaper. I will, however, continue to write a Thursday column which, as usual, will be distributed by email and then archived in www.tapatt.org. I continue to write a Saturday column for the Philippines Free Press.)
