Davao City Mayor Duterte and Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson are just day dreaming. Who gave them the mandate? Mayor Duterte cannot represent the whole Mindanao Island. MNLF chief Nur Misuari and his armed MNLF partisans failed to establish an independent Mindanao. A Moro rebel faction MILF and Abu Sayaff are still fighting to achieve their goal of independence. I doubt Mayor Duerte can unite all Moro rebels. The government is helpless to control tribal wars in Mindanao. What more do we expect from Mayor Duterte?
Gov. Chavit Singson can only represent Ilocos Sur not the whole Ilocos. He has no political influence in Ilocos region (Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, La Union, Pangasinan) and besides he has no army to defend its republic. He can boast an army of jueteng collectors and cabos to protect him. I think the armed forces of the Philippines and the national government will not allow the Philippine Republic to disintegrate without giving a fight. Keep on dreaming!
