He has
40 bank accounts:
The beleaguered former military comptroller, Maj. Gen. Carlos Garcia, is not only facing possible court martial coupled with a suspension without pay for six months while under probe for allegedly amassing unexplained wealth during his tenure, but his 40 bank accounts and nine vehicles are also likely to be frozen after the state lawyers have discovered his declared net worth for 2003 and the amount of money and properties found in his and his family's possession and ownership showed a “blatant discrepancy.”
And the army general's estimated wealth is
P185 million:
The Court of Appeals directed yesterday six banking and financial institutions to freeze the accounts of suspended Maj. Gen. Carlos Garcia, his wife and three sons as these were alleged fruits of the general's illegal and corrupt activities.
Justice Marina Buzon of the CA 12th Division also ordered the Land Transportation Office to prevent the disposition of eight vehicles under the Garcias' name.
The order, which will be effective for 20 days, was issued on the petition filed by the Anti-Money Laundering Council late Wednesday.
The AMLC said Garcia has at least P185 million at his disposal when his declared networth is only P1.253 million
Nailing Garcia is a good start, but when will other officials with "unexplained wealth" like former President Fidel Ramos and Reynaldo Wycoco be made accountable for their corrupt ways?
