CBCP president will not call for Arroyo's resignation

Davao Archbishop Fernando Capalla yesterday blinked and maintained that he will not allow the Perma-nent Council to reverse a pastoral statement of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) rejecting the calls for the resignation of President Arroyo.

“Not in my lifetime (will I allow the statement to be changed),” Capalla said during an interview.

He denied reports that the CBCP's Permament Council meeting next week had been called primarily to change the pastoral statement as a result of the junking of the impeachment complaints against Mrs. Arroyo. (See related stories)

we have to pray for this bishop who does not even understand basic catechism. he thinks gambling is okay. he thinks receiving money from gambling is okay. apparently he does not know the life of st. padre pio or the other saints who have said that gambling is evil and one must not get any money from those sources.
