SWS: 79% of Filipinos for Impeachment, 51% for People Power

THE 158 members of the House of Representatives who junked the impeachment complaint against President Arroyo apparently don’t have their ears to the ground.

The Social Weather Stations‘ latest nationwide survey shows that in the last few days of the recent House justice committee hearings on the impeachment complaint against the president, 79 percent of Filipinos wanted Arroyo impeached, 64 percent favored her resignation, and 51 percent said she should be removed by people power if the House would reject her impeachment.

Wow. 51 percent wants to "people power" GMA if the House rejects impeachment. That's uhhh... a high number, a majority of Filipinos. Even the fake president, when she cheated, failed to get a majority of votes.

Key numbers:

The percentage scores for and against people power were 62-25 in Metro Manila, 51-28 in the rest of Luzon, 40-31 in the Visayas, and 53-21 in Mindanao, with the remainder of 100 percent being the undecided in each area.

Large majorities in all study areas were for impeachment: 90 percent in Metro Manila, 82 percent in Mindanao, 79 percent in the rest of Luzon, and 69 percent in the Visayas. Overall, 79 percent wanted the President impeached.

(btw, if Mercy Abad is still doing the data gathering for SWS, then I believe the numbers are actually worse for Arroyo (about 9-10% higher) than the current SWS numbers indicate.

So if 79% of Filipinos want her impeached, the actual numbers are probably 88-89%. If 51% wants her ousted via "people power," then the actual numbers are around 60-61%.)
