GMA gets back at Bacani, axes kin from DepEd post

A day after President Arroyo's congressional allies successfully killed all three impeachment complaints through the House railroad express, the President quickly went for the kill against her ally turned foe Rep. Rodolfo Bacani by sacking the Officer in Charge of the Department of Education (DepEd), Under-secretary Ramon Bacani, a nephew of the congressman.
Mrs. Arroyo yesterday ordered the relief of the acting Education chief. No explanation was given by the Palace.
The congressman who is indentified with the administration, last week exposed the plan by his allies in the House led by Speaker Jose de Venecia and com-mittee on justice chairman, Maguindanao Rep. Simeon Datumanong to “kill” the amended impeachment com-plaint against the President.
The ousted Bacani is also a close relative of Catholic Bishop Teodoro Bacani, who the other day appealed to his colleagues in the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines for the organi-zation to come out with a stand on killing of the impeachment complaint, saying the truth was suppressed as no evidence was allowed to surface by the majority.
Bacani, the acting DepEd secretary, was appointed by Mrs. Arroyo to the post after former Rep. Florencio “Butch” Abad resigned from the DepEd helm last July 8 together with nine other members of the Cabinet.
